This custom 4-bedroom, 3-bath, Mediterranean villa is perched above its organic vineyard and orchards at the base of Mt. Konocti, commanding spectacular views of Clear Lake. The roof is finished with hand-made terracotta tapered barrel tile. Each room was designed to receive maximum light, air-flow and view.
The main house has three stories. The multi-leveled first floor with dyed and waxed concrete floors, consists of the Entry, Great Room, Kitchen, Pantry, Sun Room, and First Floor Bedroom Suite.
The Great Room is anchored around a large native boulder. The exterior walls are rice straw bales laid flat, plastered over by approximately 1 ½” of lime plaster on both the interior and exterior surfaces, creating an R-value of 55. The house stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is efficiently heated with hydronic floors through the lower concrete slabs and soapstone wood-burning stove. The floors and the domestic water are heated by a diesel boiler, with a solar system that preheats the water before reaching the boiler. The view of the lake is framed by an 18-foot custom built according-style glass door opening this spacious room to the exterior.
The kitchen has dyed concrete counter-tops, hand-carved southwestern-style cabinets, a six-burner Wolf Range, and built-in kitchen nook.
Bedroom #1 on the first floor, has a separate entrance through French doors, and a full bathroom. Bedroom #2 (master bedroom suite) on the second floor, is designed on two levels, with a bathroom, large masonry shower, and claw-foot bathtub. It opens to a large wrap around patio with great views of the lake and property. Bedroom #3 on the second floor, has a full bathroom, with large masonry shower.
